Really I did not know this, I have had mine @ 30 with a Hi 4, I will try @ 40 and see if it makes my plugs last a little longer.

I have them all.
Bosch..... did'nt run good at all
autolite..... fouled bad first 100 miles
champion... seemed like not as much high end power
accel ugroove......... 1500 or so miles, and fouled, but could have been
cleaned. i was told accel's are made by
champion
nkg....................... ran great, brownish color after 400mile run at highway
speeds. using as spares now
harley.................... seems to run the best, both high and low end, they're
alittle darker after a couple hundred miles but, it runs
strong, starts first kick every time.

If your fouling plugs....try the next higher heat range. Course the motor may run a little hotter, but so what.
The reasons for continual fouling of plugs are numerous. Running thru the list of fixes/checks in your manual will likely solve the problem.
If you have any substantial mileage or hard use on the bike, you know its probably time to do a top end. Hrdly

I use the NGK DCPR7E
They seem fine , actually help fix my rich condition.
I have the NGK DCPR8E on the shelf If I need to change the Heat Range.
Gapped to 40 using a wire gapper (Those slider type are for the birds)

When I first got my bike, the front plug died. I don't remember which brand but I just looked up a cross reference for the recommended Harley plug for an '81 ironhead and bought Champion RL82YC plugs. Been running for almost 1000mi with no problems.

My friend and mentor Ben, an old Dodge Mechanic... told me to run what the manufacture says to run....HUMMMM???? Harley... use Harley plugs, what a concept.. he said if it's a Ford, he runs Autolites... GM.. run Champions... Jap Car..run NKGs... he will be 78 in Jan. I listen to my elders..
BTW.. I have tried them all.. I run Champion Plugs. If the bike is set up right they do fine.. I run them in my Triumphs too...

I am also running the Harley plugs about 700 miles so far and have had no problems yet.Like Aphico said they run a little more on the brown side than tan but run great.Next time around I will try NGK's and see how they run.

Champions are hard to beat. I'm running the HD plugs currently with no problems. I couldn't get a set of Champions at the local Auto-Zone last time I went there because I don't speak spanish very well.

for ironheads the Only choice for me is ac45s made by delco, thats right GM,you can buy them @ any auto store, they are dirt cheap and the way to go especially if your testing and tunning, after you get it right then put in accel yellow plugs, and yes Mick is right 30thousandths for points and 40thousandths for electronic..oh by the way when you buy the ac45s its a pack of eight for about10bucks!
