You don`t need a whole front end ,just a lower tree.

Ironheads are like wild animals; they can smell fear on their owners and will eat you alive if you let them!! Always remember that you're dealing with nearly 30 years of others abusing this poor machine and it will take some time to correct all the problems.

New triple tree (lower plus stem) from J&P Cycles is about $152. You should be able to re-use your upper part although you'll need new bearings as well since the new tree doesn't include them.

When I bought my '78 I couldn't get the handlebars and front wheel to line up properly, even after loosening and tightening everything several times. Found out I had one slightly bent fork tube and a triple tree with the upper thereaded portion all bent and twisted. New parts fixed everything and I was happy again. Still am nearly 3 years later.

Eric

If your gonna give up this easily maybe Ironheads are not for you , JP Cycles $160, ebay $25.00 .How much for your 81? Small setback in my mind it's all part of the journey. I wish you all the best, Cheers

they most certainly will eat you alive if you let them.I had 2 new sportys and finally bought this 80 and figured great! paid for and no payments.had it for four years now,and if you add up the price of the bike, and the never ending parts it always needs,(although the bike should be pretty new soon im runnin out of stuff it needs)I feel like I have a gabillion dollars in it and that it always needs sumthin.and I could have bought 2 bikes for what I have in this one.BUT I CANNOT LET IT GO!!! its a sickness.Im so upside down in this thing Ill never be right.but still smilin.

yeah, no, it can't be fixed. Give up. Try and find someone who'll give ya $40 for it.
If you can't within a couple of minutes or so I'll give ya $50 for it. I just want the broken bolt is all.

clutch - battery - oil - and plugs???? seriously you think THAT'S problems? jesus read some of my broken head bolt threads and see where that took me.

if a clutch, battery, oil and some plugs got you thinking you've done a lot you probably shouldn't be owning an ironhead my$0.02.
