Default Do I need a full top end gasket set?

I'm about to order a conversion kit (probably a V-Twin ebay deal) and I'm a bit lost as to exactly what I'm going to need.

Obviously I need the cylinders, pistons and rings along with new head gaskets, is it necessary to get a full top-end gasket set as well?

As the cost of shipping to the UK is quite high I want to ensure I get everything I need the first time around.

No it is not necessary. Most rubber stuff can be re-used. That said, I bought one anyway in case I boogered (buggered for our U.K. friends) anything up.

Remember Murphy's Law: If anything can happen, it will happen at the least opportune moment (like Sunday night, 10:30 and you goon-up the gasket). Buy the gasket set. I prefer James gaskets; others may voice a different preference, but follow the gasket manufacturer instructions for torquing the jugs.

I'm not in the habit of using old gaskets, a lesson learned as a jet mech in the Navy. You have time only to do it once; use an old gasket and find time to do it again.

IMHO.

Rubber swells with contact to oil and you will regret it if you try and reuse those gaskets. This is a know brainer for me. By the whole top end gasket kit.

yup, if you have it torn apart why not replace them all? cheap insurance, IMO, even if it's just ensuring that you don't have to rip the engine apart again to replace a gasket or o-ring.

Cool don't be cheap......

do it right the first time.... replace all the gaskets you open...... re-using gaskets is done during roadside emergency surgery but no in a controlled repair......

Thanks for the info chaps. I'll order the full set.

Why the ebay kit? Firstly it's cheaper for me (I'm in the UK) than the NRHS setup. Seocnd, there's outstanding issues regarding oil usage that haven't been solved on the NRHS kits. Finally I need a kit fairly quickly and can't afford the downtime to send my cylinders to be re-bored. I might as well take advantage of the cheap dollar and purchase overseas.

The V-twin kit is by far the most used kit out there so I'm willing to give it a go. There's very little info on this site, good or bad, regarding the V-twin kits with Wiseco cylinders.
