Schwede gave great advice. Don't bother doing much else until you *fully* charge the battery, clean all the battery connections, ensure when you retighten the connections they are "wrench tight", and I would also suggest pulling the system and starter relay (replace if they have any signs of corrosion).
Since you are clearly having battery issues, continually bump starting it won't help. The fuel pump and ECM require a bit of energy. So, if your battery isn't charging you are continuously draining it. These batteries will die a premature death if you take them to nothing. And the ECM won't even try if the volts get too low.
I suspect the issue is one of the following - battery connections, relays, or battery. Of course, it's entirely possible you do more damage by thrashing it.

Thank you all again for today. Farley the Harley stopped in a gas station in RAISIN TX, and wouldn't start. I called Progressive, since they tow on my insurance and sat down.
About twenty minutes passed and a young couple came for gas, on a lovely bagger, and eventually asked why I was sitting rather than riding. And we began to trouble shoot; lights work, starter works, plenty gas, WTF? "It can't be too hard," although I was sure it could.
When we got to the fuses I saw those damn relays and a bulb shone on in my senile brain, "Those suckers fail, the result is just like this, and I bought a spare years ago when I read about the problem in the Xlforum!" Found relay, replaced it, its the lower one, and Farley started right up. Thanked the kid profusely, rode home.
And thank you again, one and all!

Glad Farley was able to go on without a tow. I think it might be a good idea to replace the relays as a maintenance item.

That would normally make me think about the crank position sensor, but the rest of the story from your thread has me scratching my head.
