Semi-Forward Controls ---- ????
Hey,
After having my '05 Low for about 8 months now, I think I'm ready to get new controls. I have a Mustang Wide seat on it right now.
Here's the scoop. I don't like the way riding in traffic with forward controls. Since most or at least half of riding consist of traffic, I don't want to install forward controls. Plus, I'm sure they will not fit with the Cycle Shacks I have it on it.
So, does anyone know of any place that sells or makes "Semi-Forward" controls? I've been playing around with my foot placement, and I think somewhere in between the mids and the forwards would be about right for me.
I've searched this forum, but either I'm missing it or I can't find it.
Thanks,
E

For solid mounts, yes (Misumi), but not for rubber mounts. The thing is, the stock rubber mount forwards are already kind of semi forward.

...............
I just came across a thread where someone extended their forward controls.
Has anyone extended their mid-controls?
Maybe I'll have to fab up something.
Thanks

I've been looking for the same thing for about three years.... and found nothing. I did notice the foot pegs on the new Sportster 48 have a 1" offset that brings the pegs a little closer(on forward controls). Maybe those pegs could be turned around and used on the mid location to push the mids foward an inch...??? Don't know if you can buy them from Harley yet, as I've been boycotting the stealership. I'm probably gonna try fabricating something myself....... I have a new welder and I'm anxious to try something.

What's wrong with riding in traffic with forwards? I can see the points people make about forwards not letting you stand on the pegs to absorb bumps, and not giving such good control in the twisties, but what is the problem in traffic? Forwards let you put your feet down with no danger of catching your legs on the pegs. In stop and go traffic that can be a real bonus.

+1 on that one.
I find that since I added my Mustang Vintage Solo seat the stock forwards on my '07 Custom are shorter than they were with the stock seat on. To the point to where I can no longer stretch my legs completely while riding.
I still prefer them over mids, but after riding a Fat Bob I really understand what "forward controls" mean. And now when I ride and want to stretch my legs I have to sit on the ridge of the seat in order to do so. Not the most comfortable place on that seat to sit, almost makes me want to send my stocker out to mean city for an adjustment.

I don't know if it's because I learned on a sportbike or if it's because I rode a sportbike for 7 years before getting my Sporty, but like having the controls close to my feet as possible. I really like the rearsets on sportbikes and thought buying some for my Sporty, my knees don't like to bent for long periods of time anymore.
I have to admit that I only tried forward controls on a Softail for about 30 minutes around town. However, I really didn't like how it felt. It seemed like it took forever to get my foott on and off the pegs. It also felt like my weight shifted too much.
Just like you mentioned, I'm on of those guys who like use the pegs for bumps in the road and twisties.
Thanks

Elias, I would test ride a Custom Sportster, see how the forwards feel on that bike. They are much closer than on a Softail. I prefer them. In my opinion I can easily shift my body weight to the pegs when going over train track and such and again, they are not as far as they are on the Softail or Dyna. I would suggest you give a XL Custom or a Sporty with Forwards a try.
