Default advice: first cross country trip

Hey Everyone

In 2 weeks i will be driving my 2008 Custom 1200XL across Canada. It's my first long trip ( i have done a few 800 mile ones) on my Sportster and i was wondering if anyone had any advice for me?

I have a new Mustang Seat for comfort, but any other suggestions for anything at all will help.

I'm pretty excited about it....the total distance i am traveling is 2500 miles and i will be giving myself about 5 days.

My only advice would be to don't get in a hurry.. Take your time and enjoy it. If you need a break take one. Where folks get into trouble is pushing beyond their limits and making a mistake. You've given yourself plenty of time so go have fun.. Have a great ride!

Be sure to have a good camera with you.These trips don't come everyday and you should really document as much of it as possible with pics even video if possible.Besides we like pics here also.Enjoy the trip and ride safe

I just got back from a 5k trip last week. As already stated, just take your time, ride your ride, and rest when you feel the need. Most of all,, enjoy.

Take each day as a new adventure. If you are used to doing 500+ mile days and that is what you plan on everyday, it's like any other ride. No biggie, just take it one day at a time.

Always plan on rain and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't (rather then frustrated when it does). Also, be prepared for break downs and accidents (just know who you are going to call or how you are going to handle them in case the worst happens).

Have your luggage sorted out well before your trip. Nothing worse then having to strap and rearrange things on a daily basis.

Relax and have fun.
