Se Street Performance Baffles
Greetings All...I'm New To This Forum Thing So Bear With Me. I Just Put A Set Of Se Street Performance Slip Ons On My 07 883. They Look Good And Sound Okay But I Was Thinking Of Drilling A Few More Holes In The Baffles. Anyone Else Tried This? I Tried Pulling Out One Of The Baffles But Either They Are Tacked In Somewhere Or I Need A Bigger Hammer. Any Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thanks

A lot of people just did the "Gronk" mod or "Joe Minton" mod to their stock mufflers. Read up on the Gronk mod and see if that's what you are looking for.

I just removed the 2 screws holding the baffles, gripped the tail flange with some vice grips and wiggled them out...also loosen the clamp holding the slipons...drilled new holes in the same pattern and size going from 3 holes per row to 8 per row. there are 5 rows of 3 holes...now I have 5 rows of 8 holes. Much improves mileage and performance.

I was considering the possibility of this myself after buying Folkie's SPs. What was the effect on sound for you hoghead?
I'm wondering how the sound difference would compare between 1. drilling more holes of the same size; 2. drilling the existing holes bigger. I imagine one has more effect on tone and another on volume? Anyone know what effect removing the glass packing has? I'll have another look at Gronk's mod and see if I can pick anything up...

Make sure that any screws holding the baffles in are removed! Then, if they still don't want to slip out easily, the attached thread shows an enhancement to the vice grip method that works very well. Could save the time and trouble of pulling the slip-on and beating the baffles out with a wooden stick.
This was done on SE II's but should work equally well on any baffle that you can grip with a vise grip.

Part of the diffculty with pulling the baffles out is it is difficult to align the force of the pull pecisely parallel to the pipe, so we are always pulling slightly to one side or the other. This will insure that the force applied is parallel to the axis of the pipe, and eliminates the alignment issue.

Hello from Pittsburgh and welcome to the forum.
Drilling the existing holes larger and adding holes will add sound and horse power. Good luck.

I had quite a job getting the baffles out of my Double Barrels. I took the screw out which holds the baffles in, put it inside the pipe, and use it to fix one of those 'P' shaped exhaust clamps inside the pipe. Ie: with the 'P' bit sticking out of the pipe, and facing the inside of the pipe. I then bashed away on the 'P' part of the exhaust clamp with a rubber mallet for a while, until the baffle was out. It chewed a few chunks of rubber out of the mallet, but what the heck.

rfranz's method works a treat. Having a lot of that unhealthy mod curiosity, I popped Folkie's SP baffles out in a jiffy the other night - no struggling at all (Folkie, you must've put some special baffle grease in there before you sold them to me, you sly devil ). Had a look around and the glass fibre packing looks like it's stuck to the insides of the cans. I imagine taking it out (to see what effect it had on sound) would mean scraping it out, and buying new fibre if you wanted it back in there. The holes in the baffles look like they could be drilled bigger in a matter of minutes though. I've decided to leave it be as these are loud enough for me right now. They tapped back in easily with a rubber mallet.
