Problem getting my new Sportster....
Hi to all! I just Fedex'd off a check for a new Blue Sportster 883, but I have a problem that I hope you all can help with. I live in Deming NM, and the bike is in Kingman Arizona, about 520 miles away. I had to move a few times over the last few years and I lost my motorcycle endorsment when I lived in Indiana a year ago(I just have a car lic now), so I have to get a permit here in NM. While NM has no restrictions other than not taking a passenger, Arizona says no riding on the highways with the permit. I have 2 weeks and a day to get the bike, but it appears I can't DRIVE it home because of the highway restriction(should of thought of that first, eh?). This is a real PAIN. Any ideas? I last rode 3 years ago, and had been riding for 22 years at that point. I really hate to drive a u-haul up there to get it.....any and all ideas are welcome!! I WAS planning to take the lic test on it...

I'd just be careful not to get pulled over. Even if you did get pulled over, the cop probably wouldn't care. Here in PA they don't even really care if you have a permit...

I'm not telling you how to live, but I ride the interstate from time-to-time with only my permit... but thats just me. try mapping it out with as little freeway time as possible.

Why don't you have it shipped. Shouldn't cost too much. http://www.moverquest.com/motorcycles/harley.aspx

That is a great idea. The break in period is 500 miles, procedure is basically easy on the gas (keep the RPM's low), lots of varying RPM's and under 65mph.
And best of all, by the time you get home it will be broken in

How about a pickup truck? can always rent one if need be..
I would just say screw it and ride it home though.. maybe have a friend roll along side on another bike in case you get ganked by the man..

For driver's licenses, the state that issues the license usually is the rule that counts as long as you still reside in the issuing state.
eg. If your state required you to only drive during daylight hours as a condition on your license you would have to follow that in every state.
Check with NM license bureau.
