Starter Does not engage Please Help
I would like some opinions.
My 06 1200R 35k miles started showing a problem. intermittently the starter does not engage. I replaced the original batter, cleaned all the connections but it still is doing it.
1) Can I do something else before i rip it open.
2) Continuing to ride it make it worse ?
3) The moter seems fine, should I just replace the clutch and Solenoid ?
Anything else. ???

At 35K, that's what you need bro. About how many times do you estimate you crank it for every 100 miles on the odometer?

Mine was doing the same thing and it was indeed the starter clutch. I went ahead and replaced the whole starter as the stock ones are made with needle bearings and the one I replaced with contains ball bearings. Supposed to have a much longer life, but we will see. Hope you get it fixed and running soon.

Many good reports about the All Balls 1.4Kw starter but I have just ordered an Ultra Chrome 1.4Kw from Eastern Performance Cycles. I would have gone for the All Balls version but everyone (including All Balls) are showing no stock so I guessed it may be some time before it shipped. I'll post once I have received and fitted the new starter.

I only replaced the clutch $100 and then $ 25 for the gaskets and $9 for the fluid.
