You just need to make it work for you.
For instance if I want to check those posts that I've commented on I'd click on my name in the upper right, then click on "show all stats", then I'd select show all my posts.
When I first come on I go straight to the "New Posts" button on the top bar. That lists all posts that were made since my last visit.
You slowly get the hang of it.

click onto user cp and go thru all the settings on the left side(your control panel)for each group-under settings and options,there is a place for e-mail notification for any thread you post on--also as others have said-the more you're on the easier it gets

Another helpful tip: If you find a thread that you like and enjoy, at the top of that thread click on "Thread Tools", use the drop down arrow and click on "Subscribe To Thread", click the "add" button.
Then anytime you visit the forum, just click the "User CP" button towards the top left of the page, click on the thread you subscribed to to view it. (if the thread isn't showing it's because it hasn't had any recent activity, click on the "View All Subscribed Threads" and it will show a list of all threads you have subscribed to.
