the sound happens after i excellerate pretty hard sometimes during the excelleration. but it stays at idle for about 10 seconds then it seems to stop but it will happen sporaticly at idle when the bike it hot like a jingling spring. only on the front cylinder. i increased the jet size one size up on the main only. this was after the conversion. I at first thought i had an exhaust leak. non of this happen right away after the conversion. it ran killer for atleast 500 or so miles then it started. Im wondering if there is a leak at the exhaust side of the head. it would explain the backfiring on decelleration now which didnt happen before. do the metal cometic gaskets need re torqing after so many miles when brand new?

as an 883 i dynoed the bike and i was running a 45/180 and a shimmed nokk needle. i just bumped up the main to a 185 and that was it. turned out the adjustment screw to 2.75 turns out.

What do your plugs look like? Chocolate brown is "Ideal". All climates and bikes are different but i think 185 main and a 45 slow w/ 2.75 turn out should be good enough to not be lean but again check your plugs and see for yourself.

A ping on hard acceleration says its detonating. This is from what i know and personally gone thru.

I had the rear head come loose within 100 miles already. I think your right and a compression leak will cause it to run badly too. again it is the front cylinder only. weird. i will run a compression check. the plugs arent new but the back one is a little fatter than the front. no black on the front.

ok not detonation. it is definately a valve possible tweaked but wont know for sure until i compression test it. i think the mid has been running lean and the lean condition messed up a valve

Ok well i have a bad lifter. took out the front 2 and i couldnt push down on any of them but i noticed that one of them i could spray fluid through one side and it would come out the other side. and the good one i couldnt. seems the valve in one isnt closing and staying open. so now i need to find 1 lifter.
