Mine used to fall and hang on the bottom hinge all the time. Then a month or so ago, it fell off somewhere in NH. It doesn't flop around anymore now

Mine fit pretty good now. It used to come loose all the time. I just replaced the plastic clip and havent had a problem

I'm a zip tie guy now to, early 04 rubber mount and chrome battery cover with gravel rash, wish I had found out sooner.

I also use a small zip tie but you don't need to fasten it. With the cover in place, drill a small hole through the front clip passing through the open slot of the cover. Cut your small zip tie to be about 1 1/2 inches long and stick it through the hole like a pin. The head of the zip tie needs to be larger than the hole you have drilled. Then to remove your cover all you do is pull your zip tie pin out first. Simple.

It was indeed helpful, spent yesterday washing the bike and zip tied the battery cover up, unfortunately once I finished I realized during the process I had drank a beer or twelve so Ill have to test it out today instead
