Default 84 iron head runablity

I have been thu the carb replace the plugs and still it runs extremly rich she stumbles and hesiates with even throtal, and let set for 15- 20 min after ridding long enough to warm up it will not refire and run.The main jet is a 160( i think is stock for the CV carb)the timming is corret. Im at the end of my rope with this problem. please and help would be great>>>>>....

well you may find this crazy but i have to run my front cylinder loose and my rear normal (( the valve lash)) to make it run properly I believe its probabily a valve spring in mine doin it but the symptoms are the same as what yer sayin so check yer tappet settings then do a compression check front and rear then run it for a bit get er hottttt then without delay do another compression check if yer too tight you will loose compression... and also cause hard starting when hot, misfire, surging.... and on

and another note if your rings are bad you might seem to run rich and use a bit of oil

I would check the enrichment valve and choke cable.
I've seen some CV carbs runing with slightely open enricher...

With all ur help i got her running the hesitation skipping fixed, it runs great. But after 20min. of ridding i shut her off and started right up again after a quick plug ckeck, then i let set for bout 15- 20 min and will not start. back fire out the carb pop'n out the exhaust.

i had one do that when i had the fuel line too close to the engine caused vapor lock....

INSANEHANE, That gives me sumthing eles to try. i was also thinking of putting a larger oil cooler in place of the dinky stock one and maybe a larg computer fan also with a switch i can flip to cool her down when sittiing breifly

i fig it sould work s long as it can handle the heat and draw low voltage when the bike is off, and not come back to a bike with a dead battery after an hour.LOL
