Hello from Mi....
My name is Mike and like everyone else here, a big Sportster fan. What lead me to this site is I recently bought a complete restored 68 XLCH from an estate and have been trying to figure out how to start it for the past three weeks. I'm sure I'll get good advice and information here.
This is my fifth Sportster, although it has been twenty years since I've had one with the exception of an 883 GNC Dirt Tracker. I also have been fortunite in that I've had built and raced a late year XR750. 95 Buell S3 owner as well.
I am not a mechanic but do know my around Harley V-Twin somewhat. So, I'll have some really dumb questions and looking forward to the wisdom, trial and errors others have learned the hard way in order to avoid similiar "stepped in it" moments.

Thanks all....
...for the welcome. I am an hour and a half north of Flint, for those that are familar with Michigan. So a short note about the 68 XLCH. The bike was restored over ten years ago, started and everything sorted out and then parked. I bought it, trailored it home and there it sits. After a couple of weeks I tried to start it....kicking, kicking and kicking - all the while near 100 degrees. The only thing that saved me, other than a few short burst of running, was the kick starter spring broke in half. After reading the forum I suspect the carb will come off, cleaned and new kicker spring installed. This forum is a great place for information, I know have somewhat of an idea on how to go about starting this....

Welcome from Sw Michigan...I would start by pulling out the spark plugs and making sure you have spark if you do next step would be to make sure the fuel is getting into the carb..sitting that long you will probably have to at least take the carb apart and clean up the needle and jets..I would start a thread asking for help in the ironhead section as well those guys are very good about helping out..

Mike: Welcome to the forum family from a swamp near Algonac. Good luck with your I.H., you could be hearing from "IronMick" shortly. Knows his way around I.H.'s and grills a mean burger as well!
