we live 100 miles from mobile, but the bike will either be in the back of the truck or on a trailer. i wasn't sure of the belt thin either. we were thinking it might be worse for them to be attached then thrown off if, God forbid, we should have an accident.

Kelli has been riding with me since she was 7 - she's got a Joe Rocket jacket with shoulder, back and eblow armor, motocross riding pants, kid sized motorcycle boots, gloves and an HJC full face helmet.

All my kids loved to go for a ride when they were your daughters age.
They were always dressed properly to ride and I never rode more than a couple miles. Typically rides were around the neighborhood or on back roads.
The thought of one of kids falling asleep, or being strapped to me or the bike just freaks me out. Brings to mind the all the motorcycle accidents I've experienced.

My son turned 5 (legal age here) last month and I've taken him on a few rides since. Just taking him around town, no highways for a few more years. I got him a helmet and jacket and I had to get Kuryakyn pegs so he could reach. We're loving it!

I ride both of my boys around town here, and longer trips, though not on the interstate. I think they were as young as three when we started. We usually ride a Suzuki (transverse four motor) that lets them ride in front.
I've put them in front on the sporty, too, but the right leg has to rest on top of the air cleaner...

HOLY SHIT NO!
There's a reason motorcycles don't come with seat belts.
In the event of a get off you DON'T WANT TO BE STRAPPED TO THE 500+ lbs momentum machine!
There was a well-meaning but totally stupid senator who suggested mandating motorcycle seat belts a decade or so ago and the safety geeks went ape on her (for good reason).

I have a 10 year old that couldn't go more than 50 miles without dozing off when she was 8. I freaked the first time I realized what was happening. I could feel her helmet tapping me on the back.
It is something about the engine frequency at highway speeds that does her in. As she has gotten older, it is better, but we are still dang careful.
Be careful and good luck.

I've actually read in a lot of places about just that....
And as for strapping your kid to the sissy bar...... : frownthre
.....that's probably the stupidest suggestion I've ever heard...no offense to you, but whoever suggested that should be strapped to the front forks of your bike sometime....
Who the hell would've ever thought KevM could have such a phenomenally cute kid....

never fear, my wife and i were thinking that strapping her on me or the bike is a bad idea, but i am going to come up with something for her to hold on toaround my waist, caue i don't beleive her arms will go all the way around me.
i just sat her and i on the bike, she can reach the pegs, but some adjustables will make it much easier.
here she is!

Kinda makes you wonder about that whole nature vs. nurture thing...

I'm sure I've seen some sort of harness that the rider can wear which has hand holds for the kids.
Kelli liks holding the handles that are on top of the HB bags I have on the Jackal. On the Harley I think she holds the backrest... she doesn't hold onto me, but she could. My jacket has plenty of spots.
Also, remember the stock hand-grab strap that comes on Sportys.. that's an option for her too... though maybe a slightly longer one would be easier.
