Default Oil Pressure Gauge...

Im about to buy the Arlen Ness Oil Pressure Gauge for my 03 sportster.
I see where the gauge attaches to the top of the motor (just below the gas tank) but what I cant see is, where does the line connect into the engine? Does ayone have one, or even better, a picture? Thanks.....

Should be instructions and enough hose to reach the needed connection.

Personally it would be more for looks as the oil pressure in a Sporty engine will vary, depending on engine RPM.
Low RPM, low oil pressure.
Higher RPM, oil pressure will rise.
Oil pressure light will do the same.

Adding a gauge just gives a place to leak.

Doesn't read the same way as a car.

It connects where the oil pressure light switch is. There's an adaptor you use so you can screw the switch in as well, so you get the gauge and the warning light.

It's quite a job to get to where the switch is: under the oil filter. Well, it is on my '05 anyway, I guess it's pretty similar on an '03? It'd be a lot easier if you did it when you'd got the filter off for an oil change.

On mine the wire to the oil pressure light switch wasn't quite long enough to reach to the new location of the switch, and I had to extend it; easy enough to do.

Most of the joints are 1/8" - 27 NPT pipe thread: the hose to the gauge, the adaptor to the motor, switch to the adaptor. Not the hose to the adaptor, which is a different kind of ftting. The pipe thread joints need PTFE tape or similar to make them oil tight. I used Loctite 565 PST Pipe Sealant, which is available as H-D part # 99818-97 (never seen it anywhere else).

Here's my gauge:

I didn't use the Arlen Ness gauge (bought the kit without the gauge) because I didn't like the colours on the face. That's a VDO gauge. It isn't oil filled, and it does seem to be suffering from the vibration; in due course i will have to replace it.

When I do replace the gauge I'm thinking of using that one with the engine turned face in the J&P, CC, etc catalogues, which someone said matches well with the silver faced speedo and tach.

I haven't seen the silver faced one, not even in the "08" J&P catalog, but ,I did read that the Ness gauge was a good one compared to other brand names.
