HOLY S&%T I'm SCARED!!!
I need to get this off my chest right now. I talked to my wife (married July 3,2009) this morning and she has not yet gotten her period. She took a CVS home pregnancy test and it said she was pregnant!! This was not planned and now I'm scared as hell that I'm not ready to be a dad. We're both 28, work, own a home together, but we didn't plan this and now we're both scared as hell. It's not that we don't ever want to be parents, but we just hadn't planned on being ones so soon after getting married.
We have both talked about how we feel about all this, but I just needed to let it all out to someone besides my wife. We aren't telling our parents about this until we have definitive proof from the man in the white coat. My wife was not on the pill (I thought she was), and she took a home CVS test. I don't want to put all my eggs (HAHA, no pun intended) into that basket and say that "YEP, we're gonna have a baby", but from what I understand about these home tests nowadays, they are pretty accurate.
I don't want to have to get rid of the sporty to afford baby stuff (I'm just about to get her where I want her), but I will do what I have to do to provide. (WOW, that was selfish I know, but please don't judge me on that one, just venting)

Congratulations, and congratulation. Don't freak, you'll be suprised at how natural fatherhood comes to you.
Is the bike paid for?

The statement is so true. It don't matter if you feel ready or not. When that baby comes it'll make you ready. Trust me.

sperm donor or dad
we have a world full of sperm donors. and very few real dads. the fact that you are willing to do whatever it takes. says you will make a good dad. congratulations. and if your parents had waited until they felt like they would be able to be the best parents in the world. you would probably still just be a gleam in your fathers eye.

Being a father too I agree with 72Iron and D-Rock. If it's your time to be a father you'll be just fine. My daughter is grown and gone now but I don't remember giving up much when she was a little one. Loving them is what it's all about. It's not whether or not you have a bike (or fishing stuff or skiing equip.........you get the picture). Unless having a bike puts you in true financial difficulties.

Yes, the bike is paid for. I was actually working on the new tins today, hoping tomorrow I can get them on the bike and get pics to everyone. Anyways, I will do anything for my kids, but I feel like a real scumbag because I was the one to bring up to my wife that if this wasn't planned and IF we don't feel like this is the right time for us to bring a kid into this world, than there is something we could do about that...I'm talking about the big "A" and I don't mean grades. She said she really wants to go ahead with the pregnancy if she gets back that result from her doctor.
We've talked and she said she doesn't see resenting me for bringing up the idea of aborting. But I just feel that with our crazy schedules and my going back to school for my Masters, we may want to hold off on raising a family. But after thinking about all that now all day I'm not sure how I'd feel about myself when we are ready for kids and get pregnant on purpose. Am I going to resent myself then?
...uncertainty sucks right now, I just hope that I can make the right decision and not regret ANYTHING....
Thanks for all the replies and please keep them coming

Mat,
First off congrats. Im also 28 and recently married (May 2009). Haveing a Kid is a blessing. I dont have any yet but when i do i'll welcome the experience. Even when me and my wife were dating i always said to her if that was to happen we would do whatever it takes to provide for the child. i mean things could be worse right? could have have been a complete stranger or broke or homeless or worse yet not have owned a bike yet... Be happy for new life. Good Luck
