Default Electric Start upgrade for kick only bike

I have a 71 Ironhead that is kick only but does have the opening in the top of the case for the starter as a 71 should. I bought a new Tech Cycle Torndao starter to aviod the old style setup. My primary basket does not have the starter ring gear on it. Can I just order a new gear and mig weld it on or do I look for an old part that is setup for kick start and electric to replace it with? Any help would be appreciated

If your primary basket is stepped on outside edge then you can weld it on(4 - 3/4 to 1" welds equally spaced around). If it's not stepped on the edge then you can't.

the baskets should be the same. the ring gear will have a bevel which should face away from the basket, you weld into the bevel. they are a interferrence fit so freeze the basket over-nite and bake the ring gear in the oven at 450 and hopefully it will go on more friendly.
