Default How to insert pictures in your posts

(Copied from Gronk62's thread here: )

G'day ALL. I quite often get PM's from members wanting to know how to embed pictures from their XL Forum gallery into a post. About a year and a half ago I had absolutely no idea how to do it and I pestered Bert and John to help me understand the basics. I've decided it might be helpful if I put together this "HOW TO" with the addition of some screen shots to make it extra easy for those who are new all this techno geekery I hope the following will be of help.

Cheers, Phil

And here is the finished post..

Confused .........
Chief Know It All
This is one of the most confusing posts I have encountered. I have wanted to post photos of my bike for quite some time now. I don't know a lot about computers and this doesn't make it any better

As a paying member, I don't have the option to create an album or upload pics to the gallery. Admin won't respond and I don't seem to be the only one with this issue. Am I missing something? Uploading pics and creating albums for people with UBER star rating only?

I think the gallery is closed. That's why we have to post photos from imgur, Flickr, imageshack, photobucket, or some such. Someone told me a couple of weeks ago that picasa works well for him.

That's a lot of trouble to post a picture!

I'm a noob here & also had to figure this out.

It seems THIS SITE DOES NOT HOST YOUR PICTURES unless you are a team XLF member (please correct me if I'm wrong) since September 2011, see thread:

What the forum's software allows you to do is link to external hosting sites, just like if you post a link to another site like a supplier.

What I had to do was find a free hosting site (I used photobucket), upload my pictures to their site which gives your picture a web address. I then opened my picture on their site then copied & pasted the address into where xlforum requested the web address.

You may have to delete the http// bit before you paste the address of your pic otherwise the http// bit is repeated making the address incorrect. I signed up for the photobucket account here:

I'm no computer nerd, it's just what worked for me. If anyone knows a better way please let me know.

I guess this was one of the reasons I did not utilize this's been a while since I've been here but when you can't share pics to illustrate things, it just validates the reason I use the other forum.
